چکیده

The Doppler effect is the preferred technique in fetal heart rate (FHR) monitoring devices. The main objective of the recent studies on the Doppler FHR has been to improve the accuracy. On the other hand, a reliable fetal heart simulator becomes essential for testing Doppler FHR monitoring devices. The motivation of this study is to design a reliable system that will be used to test Doppler FHR monitors. This device generates a similar Doppler frequency shift of fetal cardiac activity including the heart’s wall and valve motions. The components of this system are basically a signal generator using a microcontroller and a modified relay. The relay is the most important and studied component that affects the Doppler frequency shift. Thus, the relay’s contact distance and length as well as its closing and opening velocities have been modified to produce an appropriate Doppler shift to fetal cardiac motion. This device has been tested and its reliability has been proved.

A PCA/ICA based Fetal ECG Extraction from Mother Abdominal Recordings by Means of a Novel Data-driven Approach to Fetal ECG Quality Assessment

Background: Fetal electrocardiography is a developing field that provides valuable information on the fetal health during pregnancy. By early diagnosis and treatment of fetal heart problems, more survival chance is given to the infant. Objective: Here, we extract fetal ECG from maternal abdominal recordings and detect R-peaks in order to recognize fetal heart rate. On the next step, we find a be...

Advances in Doppler Ultrasound Signal Processing for Fetal Monitoring

The fetal monitoring is based on a fetal heart rhythm analysis, and aimed at the detection of early symptoms of the intrauterine fetal hypoxia. The most often used method for acquisition of the fetal heart rate (FHR) during pregnancy is the Doppler ultrasound technique. When a penetrating beam is reflected from the moving parts, like valves of the fetal heart, its frequency is shifted according...

Fetal Cardiac Doppler Signal Processing Techniques: Challenges and Future Research Directions

The fetal Doppler Ultrasound (DUS) is commonly used for monitoring fetal heart rate and can also be used for identifying the event timings of fetal cardiac valve motions. In early-stage fetuses, the detected Doppler signal suffers from noise and signal loss due to the fetal movements and changing fetal location during the measurement procedure. The fetal cardiac intervals, which can be estimate...

A novel technique for fetal heart rate estimation from Doppler ultrasound signal

BACKGROUND The currently used fetal monitoring instrumentation that is based on Doppler ultrasound technique provides the fetal heart rate (FHR) signal with limited accuracy. It is particularly noticeable as significant decrease of clinically important feature - the variability of FHR signal. The aim of our work was to develop a novel efficient technique for processing of the ultrasound signal,...

The Influence of Window Size of Autocorrelation Function on Fetal Heart Rate Variability Measurement Using the Doppler Ultrasound Signal

Commonly used noninvasive fetal monitoring is based on fetal heart rate (FHR) variability analysis of the Doppler ultrasound signal coming from the mechanical activity of the fetal heart. Estimation of periodicity of acquired signals using the autocorrelation technique is very important. The determination of cardiac intervals using the Doppler signal is more difficult than in electrocardiograph...
